Methodology · Version 1.0

Observe first. Claim less.

BestBid's research records what a visitor can observe on public pages at a stated time. It does not assign a quality score, certify an operator or infer intent. Paid bids on BestBid never affect research inclusion, order or wording.

Selection

Version 1 starts with BestBid and 24 externally listed paid-ranking boards from the current money-sorted OutOutBid public directory. Records are shown alphabetically in BestBid's index. Source directory figures are not treated as independently verified revenue.

Six observable checks

  1. Explicit paid, sponsored or advertising language.
  2. A public rule connecting bid or payment to position.
  3. A visible support or contact path on the checked page.
  4. Sponsored or nofollow treatment on external HTTPS links.
  5. Canonical and robots signals in the returned HTML and headers.
  6. A summary of how many of the five documented signals were explicit.

Collection and safety

The auditor accepts a public HTTPS domain page only. It blocks IP literals, local and reserved networks, credentials, non-standard ports and unsafe redirects; re-validates DNS; pins the verified public address; and caps redirects, time and response size. It sends no cookies or authorization and stores only findings—not returned page content.

Limitations

A snapshot may miss content rendered only after JavaScript, disclosures on another page, geo-specific responses or later changes. “Not found” means the signal was not detected in the returned HTML; it does not prove absence across an entire service. Detection does not prove payments, traffic, product quality, compliance or operator intent.
